Mike McGill – San Diego Singer-Songwriter
Born and raised in Connecticut, Mike McGill found his way to San Diego in 1998 after years of traveling the U.S. as a computer consultant. Somewhere between airports and hotel rooms, he picked up a guitar, started writing songs, and discovered a lifelong passion that would eventually become his second career.
Since his first open mic in 2005, Mike has become a familiar name across San Diego County’s music scene, performing regularly at wineries, resorts, restaurants, and private events. His laid-back acoustic style has been compared to Jack Johnson, but Mike simply calls it “a little surf meets folk meets rock meets pop.” Whatever the label, his smooth vocals, warm stage presence, and storytelling style make every performance feel like an evening among friends.
Mike has released three albums of original music — Keep On (2006), Enjoy The Journey (2009), and Good Morning Afternoon (2017) — each one drawing from his own life and experiences. While he’s humble about his songwriting (“I just write for the joy of it”), his work has found some extraordinary adventures — including a trip aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery in 2010 and features in multiple indie projects and publications.
These days, Mike focuses on sharing the music he loves most, performing crowd favorites from nine decades alongside a few of his own originals. Whether he’s playing a winery patio or a private celebration, one thing’s always clear: Mike McGill is having a great time — and his audience is too.
